Background and Birthright

In this sermon, Pastor Matt kicks off a new sermon series on the book of Matthew.  This sermon serves as an introduction to the book, unpacking some things about the text, its author, genre and purpose.  After offering an introduction to Matthew, the sermon moves into the very first chapter of the book specifically the first 17 verses of chapter 1.  These verses (Matt 1:1-17) are a genealology or family tree highlighting some of the key ancestors of the historical Jesus of Nazareth.  In this sermon, Pastor Matt unpacks how this ancient family tree is relevant to our world today and our understanding of Jesus Christ.
