About

Since God speaks to us through the Bible, the faithful preacher is one who contextually brings the eternal truth from the Bible to the church and the world. David Larsen so eloquently described the role of sermons in the life of the church in his book The Company of the Preachers. He explained, “A high view of Scripture requires a high view of preaching. The Second Helvetic Confession boldly says: Praedicatio verbi dei est verbum dei (“The preaching of the Word of God is the Word of God”). That is to say, to the degree that a sermon says what the Word of God says, that sermon is the Word of God. And thus, as the Word of God is “living and powerful,” so the sermon should partake of that same vitality and liveliness through the Holy Spirit” (p.19).
