What and How |
We meet Sunday mornings in Timothy Hall (Youth Room) to discuss the book we are reading. The discussion is led by you - the members of the DRC Book Club. On the first Sunday of the month, Pastor Matt will join the group to introduce the new book for that month.
We ask that all book club members commit to reading as much of the book as they can, recognizing that not all will be able to read every page in a given month. The point is not to read through books per se, but rather to let books read through us so that we deepen our understanding of Christ and the world.
We ask that book club members commit to the club, even if the book on a given month is awful to them. Some books are intentionally "bad." We read things written from perspectives we like, don't like, and books that are exciting or boring (though we generally try to keep it to stuff that's good content and reading). Through discussion, we process what we are reading and learn how it relates to our cultural context.
We generally read books that are small (less than 300 pages) to keep reading to a minimum (10 pages a day). And we generally read books that a wide audience can grasp. Some books will be more advanced, but we try to shoot for a middle ground. Don't worry, it will be a blast!!!
