Church Ministry Team

The Church Ministry Team consists of men and women appointed for providing leadership under the direction of the Pastor-Teacher and the Pastoral Team for the purpose of implementing the various ministries of the church. Together with the Pastoral Team, the Church Ministry Team works to equip the people of Del Rey Church to better serve Christ and thereby bring glory to God. The purpose of this team is to work as ministers among ministers. As a church, we believe that all Christians are called to be ministers.  The Bible declares that we are all – as Christians – the royal priesthood of God (see 1 Peter 2:5, 2:9).  As the royal priesthood, we proudly identify the people of our church as ministers. Thus, when it is asked, “Who is the minister of this Church?,” let it be proudly answered by all Christians who regularly attend our church – “I am.”  We are all ministers for the glory of Jesus Christ. The Church Ministry Team serves the church by calling the world into a life of ministry and service unto the Lord Jesus.

MAGGIE SABIDO: Church Secretary

Maggie Sabido is the secretary of Del Rey Church (10 years counting!). She has been a Christian for 61 years and enjoys every minute of it. Maggie recounts that she was raised in church, where she learned that God was triune and Jesus, the Son of God, came into the world, was born of a virgin, died for our sins and rose from the grave. Although she knew these things, Maggie did not realize that Jesus had willingly suffered and died for her personally, in order to be her Lord and Savior. It was through reading the works of author Grace Livingston Hill that she recognized her lost and sinful condition apart from the grace of God and so by the gift of faith she asked Jesus Christ to forgive her sins and she received eternal life. Maggie was born in Wheeling, West Virginia. She has been married to her husband Juan for 36 years. They have 8 children (6 boys and 2 girls) and 17 grandchildren. In addition to her work at the church, Maggie is also a realtor, a portable notary, and she occasionally teaches English as a Second Language.

JOY DOLAN: Director of Music and Praise

Joy Dolan began singing in this church as a little girl. Ever since then we have not been able to pry her off the stage, nor have we ever wanted to! Joy has been married to her husband, Mike (our associate pastor), for 14 years and they reside in Westchester with their four beautiful children: Kyle, Spencer, Chandler, and Cooper. As an active mother, Joy can be found home-educating her daughters, driving to high school events for her oldest son, potty-training her youngest son, or performing one of a million tasks as a home maker. If you want to see Proverbs 31 in action, just spend a day with Joy and stand back in awe. Joy is an active community member, who can be found cheering at the top of lungs at her kids’ athletic games. For fun, she enjoys writing music, interior design, painting rooms that do not need to be painted, home-schooling, and overpowering defenseless opponents in badminton on her front lawn. In addition to all these things, Joy has recently become a rather in-high-demand doula for many mothers in our church. We could go on and on, but suffice it to say – Joy Dolan is cool!

ERIKA JONES:  Children’s Ministry Director

Erika Jones has been a vital part of this church for 8 years. She came to Del Rey when her fiancé, Matt Jones (who later became her husband), invited her along for the ride of her life. Before coming to Del Rey Church, Erika was an active member of Hope Chapel in Hermosa Beach, where she served in a wide variety of ministries. Her favorite ministry was volunteering as a short-term missionary overseas in Africa and India, and closer to home at an orphanage in Mexico. Erika is the daughter of a pastor and one of six siblings. She is the product of an amazing Christian home, where she was home-educated until attending college. Erika graduated from Biola University with a bachelor’s degree in humanities and a minor in biblical studies. Afterward, she attended graduate school at Talbot School of Theology majoring in Inter-Cultural Studies, only to later transfer to Chapman University, where she earned a master’s degree in teaching. Erika holds a California State Teaching Credential and loves to talk about curriculum. She enjoyed an active career as a middle school teacher, which she gladly swapped for the active life of a mother to Micah and Elijah. Combining her amazing upbringing with her education in teaching, Erika serves the church as our Children’s Ministry Director (in addition to a whole assortment of details behind the scenes).

THOMAS HARRIS: Youth Ministry Intern

Thomas Harris loves God and he loves ministering to people. He became an intern with our Youth Ministry Program in October of 2007, after pursuing God’s heart for the youth of our community. In addition to his job at the church, Thomas works full-time for Trader Joe’s and has been a loyal employee of 7 years. Thomas became a Christian in 1996 when he heard the gospel of Jesus Christ. Since his conversion, he has watched God use him to share the good news of Christ in powerful ways. Thomas is a husband of 10 years to Gina. They have two beautiful daughters: Eden Elizabeth (8 yrs. old) and Eliza Glory (3 yrs. old). Thomas served in the United States Navy and is a proud native of Los Angeles. For fun, Thomas likes watching movies, reading the Bible, eating junk food, creative writing and – don’t forget – he is a big sports fan. In addition to loving sports, he also plays them. Thomas was recently injured playing in a 30-and-over men’s basketball league at Chatsworth Recreation Center. While plotting his return to the league, Thomas can be found on most days of the week slam dunking in the church parking lot.

DAVID MENENBERG: College Ministry Coordinator

David Menenberg is a man on a mission. He is a native of Seattle, WA, who moved to Los Angeles in pursuit of a career in the film industry. Spending years honing his skills in film, David graduated with bachelor’s degree in production from Loyola Marymount University. While a student at LMU, David developed a heart for doing campus ministry called The Station. After graduation, this desire continued and David soon began leading a Bible study on campus to reach out to students in need of the good news of Christ. David received Christ at an early age and found that college was a pivotal time in his life where he turned to Christ like never before and got serious about his faith. He noticed that others had the opposite reaction during their college years, that is, they walked away from God and fell into the traps of postmodern secularization. Seeing this tragedy, David determined to give himself entirely to the cause of ministering to young people. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Theology from the best seminary in the state, Talbot School of Theology. In his spare time, David enjoys eating processed foods and rooting for sports teams that no one else likes.
