Harvest Party 2007
Wednesday, October 31st
Hello All! Well, the 2007 Harvest Party was a huge success. As some of you may or may not know, this is our 5th year of hosting an alternative to the typical Halloween traditions. Our goal has been to provide kids with a safe and fun alternative to going door-to-door asking for candy. As Christians, we aren't celebrating the traditional roots of Halloween, rather we are celebrating the Harvest that God has blessed us with. In this case, we recognize that God has blessed us with a community in which we have been called to witness the love of Christ, and the Harvest Party is a very practical way to show them we care.
Every year I wonder how we are going to be able to pull off this event – the amount of people needed is always more than we have available. This year was no different, but as in every other year, God uses the little amount we have to offer and produces something fantastic out of it. To all of you who were able to participate, I personally want to thank you for your efforts, and from all of the compliments we received your efforts were appreciated by many.
This year we didn't change much in the way of how we ran things or the things we had (why fix it if it isn't broken.....right?). A small change that was made was we switched one of typical inflatable bouncers to what is called a "Superslide." If you didn't get an opportunity to go on the slide or run the obstacle course you really did miss out on a fun time. Each year we find the things that the kids love and this was one of them. At one point there were so many kids on the thing it started to tip over, but thanks to the quick response by the slide workers, they were able to prevent it from falling and limit the number of kids on it at one time.
As we consider next year's party, we remember that we sold thru 1000 tacos, 200 hotdogs, 150 bags of popcorn, 10 pots of coffee, 10 gallons of hot cocoa, 4 cases of water, and 5 cases of soda. Next time, we will order more food, and hopefully have a few more items on the menu as we continue to see this event grow. Each year I am asked for a head count (which I am really bad at so....) I would put it somewhere between 50 & 500.....:) Again, thank you to all who were able to pitch in and please know that efforts blessed this community tremendously.
In Him,
Mike Dolan
Check out the fun!
